Notes--one for each episode
Journal #1
Ismene and I begin to talk about Creon's decision he has made upon our two brothers, Eteocles and Polyneices. It was said that Eteocles will be givin' the proper buriel but Polyneices will be left to rot on the battlefield and it's forbidden that anyone is to bury him. I told Ismene that I was going to find our brother Polyneices and give him the proper buriel, I don't care if it's forbidden, it's the right thing to do. She kept trying to talk me out of burying him, but I knew that it is the right thing to do and nothing she said could stop me from doing it, I have already made up my mind to go and bury him and willing to accept the consequences that may follow.
Journal #2
Creon now, officially says that Polyneices is not to be buried and is supposed to be left where he fell for the dogs and vultures to pick at. A sentry then comes running in, saying that something has happened. He says that someone has buried Polyneices, they have preformed a ritual to send him to the heavens. Creon is infuriated, it was said that the Gods may have buried Polyneices, but Creon begins to say that they wont accept criminals, he has been too much of a traitor to be accepted. Creon then tells Sentry that he is to go and find who has committed this deed and bring them back to him. Creon says if this person is not found he will not even be accepted into Hades.
Journal #3
The Sentry found me re-burying my brother Polyneices and brought me back to Creon, where he could not believe his eyes and wanted to hear the whole story. After the Sentry is done explaining how he has caught me, Creon follows up by asking if what the Sentry said is true. I confess because I know it was against the law, but I was following the God's rules, therefore I buried Polyneices. Creon then lets the Sentry go and tells the servants to arrest my sister Ismene because she is thought to be an accomplice. Creon asks if she took part in the burial and agrees to it. We argued because we both know that she is lying. She is lying because she wants to die with me because she said she will have nothing left. But I argue that she is not guilty to Creon. Then Creon announces were are to be imprisoned and will be sent to death.
Journal #4
Haemon and Creon begin to argue over me and the act i have committed. At first, Creon is happy with his son because Haemon says he is on his side, but then he expresses his views that he also thinks what I have done was right and an act to the Law of the Gods. Haemon then says that all of Thebes including him believe that I am no criminal and what I have done was for good intentions. Creon then says that he is still going to kill me, then Haemon argues back saying if I am killed, he will kill himself. Creon also plans to let Ismene free and lock me up in a vault outside of Thebes, with little food and in his hopes I plead to Hades.
Journal #5
I start to walk down to my death chamber thinking of how death is but moments away. The chorus begins to feel sorrow for me. As death grows nearer i decide to make a speech. I say how i am not upset that my time has come, I was going to die sooner or later. I think of my death as a way to reonnect with my family, where I can see my brothers again, and the rest of my family. I say how the family name will soon die out. Then the chorus begins to taunt me bringing up my father Oedipus. Creon cuts us all off and sends me down, to my death which waits but seconds away.
Journal #6
Tiresias warns Creon that the Gods are against my death and that I have was burying Polyneices for the good and that Creon should now and bury Polyneices. Tiresias says I should not be killed, for what I was doing was right and a corps for a corps is not right. Creon then begins to think that Tiresias was bribed into saying all these things, but then the Chorus begins to agree that I should be set free and Polyneices should be buried. Finally, Creon comes to realize what he has been doing and agrees to set me free, he rounds up his servents and axes to come break me out of my tomb.
Journal #7
The Messanger comes in and announces that Haemon has killed himself, then Eurydice comes in confused and asks what happened. The Messanger explains that when Creon went to go free Antigone, she had already hanged herself, and Haemon was there and attacked Creon with a sword. Creon had successfully dodged the attack, so then Haemon stabbed himself committing suicide. Eurydice flees to the palace, where the Messanger chases her and Creon comes back holding Haemons body. They soon find out that Eurydice committs suicide and Creon feels that he has killed his son and wife. We soon find out that Creons pride, and what he thought was best for his City was the downfall of him and all the events that occured .
Quotes and Comments:
Prologue: "...Our two dear brothers: Creon is burying one to desecrate the other."..."...take this hand of mine to bury the dead?" (pg. 192, 193)
Episode 1: It seems that the Sentry has seen Ployneices and the ritual Antigone was preforming on him, Antigone hoped that she doesn't get caught and turned in. I guess she should be more careful.
Episode 2: "...Where could I win respect and praise more validly than this: burial of my brother? Not a man here would say the opposite, were his tongue not locked in fear. Unfortunately, tyranny (blessed in so much else besides) can lay the law down any way it wants."
Episode 3: Haemon said that if Creon does not set Antigone free and kills her, he will kill himself, he is showing his true passion and love for Antigone.
Episode 4: "Come tomb, my wedding chamber, come! You sealed off habitations of the grave! My many family dead, finished, fetched in final muster to Persphone. I am last to come, and lost the most of all, my life still in my hands."
Episode 5: Thank you Tiresias for coming down and sticking up for Antigone. Telling Creon that what Antigone did was an act for the Gods, it was seen as what was the right thing to do. Thanks to Tiresias, Antigone may live to see the light of day again and be with Haemon.
Epilogue: Antigone ended up killing herself in the vault that she was locked in outside of the city. Then when Haemon found out he ended up stabbing himself. The Eurydice killed herself because her son committed suicide. Creon then felt guilty and realized that his pride for his city was not worth the life of his loved ones.
